Thou shalt not suffer a vampire to live...

My name is Ran Hwang. Raised to hunt the vampires that have infiltrated every corner of our world, I know them for what they really are and I'll do anything, everything to send them back to the grave where they belong.

When a beautiful man promises to lead me straight into vampire society and eliminate a key player in their politics in exchange for protecting him while on a mission to find his missing lover, I can't resist. The chance to strike the monsters where it'll hurt them the most nor the chance to unravel the mysteries surrounding Jason Eldridge is the opportunity of a lifetime and I readily agree.

The ante has been raised. My prey is stronger, smarter, deadlier and I am surrounded by enemies, both vampire and otherwise.

But I am not so helpless. Born with a unique ability that allows me to fight vampires toe to toe, I will rip off the masks these monsters wear and I will expose them for the abomination they are.

I am Ran Hwang.

I am...INVINCIBLE.

Interesting premise, serious technical problems
By Shirley U Jest
I began this story interested in the emotionally-damaged, Ninja-like assassin heroine, Ran. The storyline and world was plausible, and the heroine's rather stilted narrative I found sort of charming, as though English was not her first language, and she was used to thinking and expressing herself rather formally.

However, and it's a BIG however, the many, many mistakes caused the story to grind to a jarring halt over and over again. Some were little, like homonym errors, and some were words that were CLOSE to what they mean (i.e., "he will LOPE the head from your shoulders"). Far worse where the passages that made no sense at all. For example, "Vampires are strong. They are strong like a bear is dangerous. Strength-wise, they are strong..." Reminds me of a recent news headline, "Man Killed to Death." Just awkward.

Also troubling is the heroine's shifting points of view. You get that Ran's fiercely loyal to her Fellowship and never questions her duty. She's very repectful and proper. Until this story. She suddenly goes off on her own, for reasons she can't explain to herself (but might have to do with the fact that the sort-of hero is "beautiful."). She ignores a direct order to return to base. She becomes a wise ass. She allows others to influence her thinking. It didn't jibe with what we know of her so far. A beautiful man smiles at you, and your granite heart melts to goo and all your kick-assery goes down the tubes. And sometimes, the character's conversations were awkward and made little sense.

Lastly, and this just might be me, but has anyone noticed a trend in books featuring kick-ass heroines who kick-assedly kill vicious monsters, have reputations as the most skilled fighters around, but then are easily defeated in the fights they're in now? WTF? What's up with that?

I'm assuming this book is self-published. A half-decent editor would have helped a lot to make this story better and more cohesive. Please find a pro, who is not your mom or your boyfriend, who will tell you about errors in continuity (such as saying the hero's searching for his girlfriend for four years; then two chapters later it's two years), clean up the messy and confusing areas and tighten up the story to make a satisfying read.

Two stars for the interesting protagonist and the potential for a good book. Please get a good editor and revise.

Interesting

Won copy of this book thru LibraryThing:The title for this book brought to mind many questions about being invincible. What would you do for this strength? What would you risk to be invincible? Who would you trust knowing you're invincible? To be perfectly honest I thought the author did an awesome job using honor as mantra and exploring different kind of vampire lore. I thought the characters were honest, emotional, mysterious, and dramatic. I will definitely look forward to more of this author's work.

Good book

The book was a good read. Different storyline and had me guess throughout the book. The ending however, felt a bit rushed and left me wanting more.
