Die brillante, von absurdem Humor durchzogene Erzählung spielt vor dem Hintergrund der entscheidenden Jahre Irlands auf dem Weg zur Teilung des Landes. Die unerschöpflichen Facetten dieses jahrhundertealten Konflikts spiegeln sich wider in den verschiedenen Standpunkten der sehr lebensnah gezeichneten Figuren.
